Tumblr only made $13 million in 2012 and that hype about hitting $100 million by the end of this year isn’t lining up with reality. TechCrunch says they’re going to run out of money soon if they can’t find a sugar daddy soon:

“Tumblr employees have been told that the company only has enough funds to operate for a few more months, as its costs far exceed the limited revenue it earns. Tumblr pulled in $13 million in 2012, but has accelerated its advertising offering in hopes of hitting $100 million in revenue this year. The money’s not coming in fast enough to support its expenses though. Employees were recently told not to be concerned, though, because the company is expecting to be bought.”

Tumblr’s very lucky to be getting an offer of $1.1 billion, because that just makes no business sense. Assuming Tumblr meets their revenue goal of $100 million, that’s just a fraction of the buy-out price and Tumblr is losing money quicker than they can make it. Yahoo! is saving this site from it’s downfall, or at least delaying that outcome. It is thanks to them that we will be able to continue to run our blogs. And they’re hiring David Karpp for this (they have a four year agreement), so don’t expect much change. No, strike that. Expect change because Tumblr’s going to have to do something to increase their revenue. Just expect the changes to come from Yahoo! employee David Karpp.

Yes, the people that destroyed their own business are now going to make changes to tumblr.

They’re not wrong.

Yahoo is a terrible tech company whose only notable achievement is giving up the chat room industry because they couldn’t bring themselves to hire staff capable of fixing bugs and security issues. Instead they just closed that whole segment of their business down, and they’ve done nothing but limp on ever since. Now they have the person that used to come up with the themed Google logos as a CEO, and they just paid $1 Billion USD for a site they could have easily replicated with not even a quarter of that money.

These are the people we’re now relying on to maintain a robust platform for running our various blogs and websites?

I’m sorry but, this is a perfect time to abandon the fucking ship.

I am so glad they realized their game could not be taken seriously at all and just went with it. Best business decision I have ever seen.

I’m so glad they didn’t try to take their game seriously at all. There are way too many deathly serious games out there. Saints Row 2 was really a breath of fresh air, being almost entirely a comedic romp. It was the first game in a long time I just couldn’t put down for days.

I’m definitely looking forward to this.

Well to be fair, your password is only ten thousand characters.

A bit of clarification here. This is not an excuse just to justify the whole NOT UPDATING thing I’ve been doing. I’m currently upgrading to a new computer and my old one is literally in pieces.

This post is coming from a rather neglected little laptop that needs far more love than I give it, and honestly it doesn’t have enough pixel real estate on the screen to properly write ANYTHING, let alone actually answer people’s asks. I realize I’ve posted almost nothing this month, and this situation is just making it worse, but I’m not dead.

Once I have my computer back up and running, and we finally get a grasp on that hole upcoming season finale weirdness, you can expect a lot more from me.

It’s actually built into windows from what I read here, but that’s only for typed stuff that you’re scanning in.

They do make pens for that, and you can you use stuff like Office OneNote to write formatted stuff with a tablet pen for a USB tablet or full blown Tablet PC Madness.

Translating written handwriting to computer text is… not straight forward, but it’s doable.
